Sabbath Keeping Was For The Jewish People Only

Commandments four is a “ceremonial law” which was ONLY for Old Testament Israel. Ceremonial laws were a specific set of laws, for a specific group of people (Israel), for a specific time period (Old Testament). When Jesus died on the cross, He became our Sabbath. The six day work week in the Old Testament pictured man foolishly trying to earn salvation through self-righteous good works (which is impossible). The Sabbath day of rest represented our precious Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who died in our place to pay for our sins. 2nd Corinthians 5:17, “For He [God the Father] hath made Him [God the Son] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”
We are saved by ceasing from our own self-righteous efforts and resting upon the finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid a debt that He did not owe, because we owed a debt that we could not pay. Only through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ can anyone be saved. Romans 3:25, “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.” Salvation is undeserved and wholly by the grace of God toward us sinners.
Colossians 2:14, “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.” When Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the Jewish temple was torn into two pieces, signifying a new covenant between God and His people. The ceremonial laws were done away with. Ceremonial laws were “reminders” to Israel of divine truths. Please understand that the way of salvation did NOT change, all people of all times have been saved the same way—by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8,9).
The Sabbath Day is not enforced today, which is why the Bible further states in Colossians 2:16,17, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” It is certainly appropriate for Jews to observe the Sabbath Day in honor of the Lord, but it is not required anymore. The Israelites were forbidden to even light a fire on the Sabbath (Exodus 35:3). Obviously, the Sabbath is not enforced today. Circumcision, the Sabbath, eating of swine, and other Jewish restrictions in the Old Testament were ceremonial laws, which were all done away with at the cross. As we just read in Colossians 2:17, the Bible called the ceremonial laws, “a shadow of things to come.” When the sun is directly overhead, the shadow is gone. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Sabbath, in Whom we rest for salvation.
If the Sabbath were still in effect today, then everyone who worked on the Sabbath (Saturday) would be put to death. Exodus 31:15, “Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.”
Also, moral laws are applicable 365 days a year (all the time). We are never to violate a moral law! We are never to commit murder. We are never to commit adultery. We are never to bare false witness, etc. However, the Sabbath Day was ceremonial and to be kept only ONCE a week. This it was not a moral law.
Also, moral laws apply to ALL humanity, the Sabbath was only for Israel, it was a ceremonial law. As a matter of fact, Jesus broke the Sabbath! Jesus would never break a moral law! Jesus was strict on moral law, but lenient on the Sabbath because He was the fulfillment of the Sabbath. This should make very clear that the Sabbath is not valid today. So when you here people talking about the “Ten Commandments;” in fact, there are only nine remaining, which are moral laws (which do not change). Still not convinced? The Sabbath Day—Moral or Ceremonial Law?

There are Hundreds of Commandments!
The words “Thou shalt” appear 965 times in the Old Testament. The words “Thou shalt not” appear 204 times in the Old Testament. Of course, not all of these are God speaking, but most of them are. The Ten Commandments do not forbid homosexuality, but God’s Law does forbid homosexuality in Leviticus 20:13 and elsewhere. It is important that people be taught all of God’s Word.
It is interesting that Jesus summed up all the Law and prophets into TWO commandments . . .
Matthew 22:36-40, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Yet, in the Old Testament God gave Moses TEN commandments to give to the Israelites. And then further still we see that there are literally hundreds of commandments in the Bible for Christians to obey. Jesus wasn’t superceding the whole of God’s Law with TWO commandments; but rather, He was simplifying the Law of God for us to understand. The Bible doesn’t tell us not to hit our neighbor with a baseball bat, but if we love our neighbor as our self as Jesus commanded, then we won’t do that. All of the commandments in the Bible fall under the umbrella of the Ten Commandments. The first five commandments are based upon loving God with all our heart, and the last five commandments are based upon loving our neighbor as our self. This is why Jesus summarized them as such.
A man recently said to me that the Bible only forbids men from committing homosexuality in Leviticus 20:13, but it does not forbid women from doing so. Yet, if people love God then they won’t commit such wickedness. In fact, the Bible does condemn lesbianism, as we read in Romans 1:26, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature.” It’s sad how people attempt to justify sin with the Scriptures. We must take the Bible as a whole and not overlook any portions of it. If we take to heart the TWO commandments that Jesus emphasized: 1) Loving God with all our heart, and 2) Loving our neighbor as our self, then we will fulfil all of the Law of God in obeying those two. That is, a man who loves his neighbor won’t toss cigarette butts into his swimming pool, et cetera.
Jesus taught that all of the Old Testament Laws were based upon loving God and loving one’s neighbor. If we get those two commandments right, then everything else will fall into place. A man who loves his neighbor won’t deliberately hurt his neighbor in any way. If a man loves God, then he will live for God and keep His commandments.
So as much as we hear about the “Ten Commandments,” the Word of God contains many more commandments than that, hundreds in fact. The Ten Commandments are a symbol of God’s intolerance for sin. Galatians 3:24,25, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” The purpose of the Law was never to get anyone to Heaven, nor to promote better human relations. God gave the Law that “sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful” (Romans 7:13). The purpose of the Law is to show us just how rotten and sinful we are; thus revealing our desperate need for a Savior to redeem us from hellfire. Jesus paid for our sins that we might be redeemed to God. In view of all the possible sins mankind is capable of committing, the Ten Commandments were given as a moral benchmark (a measuring stick) for the Jews to compare themselves against. Everyone has broken God’s Commandments. Those who die in their sins without Christ as Savior will be judged by the Law at The Great White Throne of Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15).
The Sabbath, whenever mentioned in the scriptures, always without exception, designates the seventh day of the week. Clearly, the Sabbath Day was for a specific people (the Jews), during a specific time (the Old Testament), in a specific region (Palestine). Nowhere in the Bible is it affirmed that the first day of the week is given in place of the Sabbath. It is part of the new covenant and with a new significance, the day which our blessed Lord was raised from death according to Mark 16:9, “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.”
America was a much better nation back when we honored God enough to close our businesses on Sunday, refuse to work on Sundays, and go to church on Sundays. 1st Corinthians 16:2 evidences that Sunday had become the accepted day of going to church in the New Testament, “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.” Acts 20:7, “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.” Colossians 2:16 says, “Let no man therefore judge you… in respect of… the sabbath days.” This proves that the Sabbath Day is not a command for believers today, for we are not to judge anyone concerning the keeping of it.
Christ is our Sabbath in Whom we rest for salvation. We are saved by HIS righteousness, and not our own self-righteousness! Unfortunately, Catholics don’t believe this and are hellbound in their own self-righteousness. It is not the Church that saves us, nor ourselves; but rather, the blood which Jesus shed for our sins. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8,9).

Is the Sabbath for Christians?
If recent emails I have received are any true indication, Sabbath worship among those who claim to be Christians is becoming more and more popular. Recently, I have heard that the Sabbath was never changed by God; that we are still under obligation to keep it; that refusal to keep it is the mark of the beast; that it was invented by Roman Catholics in order to worship the Sun god. We will go to the Bible and a little history to get at the truth.
The Heresy of Sabbath-Keeping
The New Testament teachings of Paul, far from teaching the necessity of the Sabbath, show that such a teaching is pure heresy. First, consider this passage:
Colossians 2:16 “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:“ 17 “Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”
In this passage, Paul says that the keeping of Sabbath days was only a shadow of things to come. He told the Colossians not to let anyone judge them concerning the keeping of the Sabbath days (and other Jewish holy days). Since the Colossians were saved Gentiles who would not have originally kept the Sabbath, Paul is referring to those who would judge them for not keeping the Sabbath. In other words, Paul is clearly saying that the keeping of the Sabbath is no longer necessary. Those who would judge anyone else for not keeping the Sabbath are the ones who are wrong. Here is another important passage:
Galatians 4:9 “But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?” 10 “Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.” 11 “I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.”
In Galatians, Paul refers to the observing of days (which would include the keeping of the Sabbath) as one of the “weak and beggarly elements” which put men in “bondage.” He is fearful (as he says in many ways throughout the book of Galatians) that they are ready to return to the bondage of Judaism after Jesus Christ has made them free.
The Sabbath as a Sign for Israel
The Bible clearly teaches that the Sabbath was given as a gift to the people of Israel. It was a special sign of God’s covenant between Himself and Israel. Exodus 31:12-18 teaches this special relationship between Israel and the keeping of the Sabbath. Note especially verses sixteen and seventeen:
Exodus 31:16 “Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.” 17 “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.”
To require Gentiles to keep the Sabbath is to attempt to make Jews out of them. It is true that in Old Testament times Gentiles went to the Jew to find the way of salvation. However, in this age of grace, the Bible is just as clear that Jews must come to the Gentiles to find the way to God. Peter, in referring to the salvation of the Gentile Cornelius and his household, said, “But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.” (Acts 15:11). In other words, Jews (like Peter) must be saved according to the pattern of Gentiles (like Cornelius).
New Testament Worship on the First Day
These modern Sabbath-keepers teach that worshipping on the first day of the week was an invention of the Roman Catholics when they assimilated many pagan practices. First of all, Roman Catholicism was not really established as such until the fourth century after Christ. Up until that time, there were some minor moves toward giving an elevated place to the church at Rome, but there was nothing approaching Catholicism. In fact, it took several centuries after this time for them to consolidate their power into one head at Rome.
At any rate, worshipping on the first day of the week began immediately after the resurrection of Christ and continued from that time. Consider the following points:
- Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the first day of the week (Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:2, 9; Luke 24:1; John 20:1).
- The day of Pentecost, when the Holy Ghost came down in power, was on the first day of the week (Acts 2:1; Leviticus 23:15-16).
- The early church habitually met on the first day of the week (John 20:19; Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2).
- The first day of every week we remember the resurrection of our Lord as the beginning of a new dispensation in which we are no longer under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14-15; Galatians 4:21; 5:18).
- CONCLUSION: The Roman Catholic Church was not established until about three centuries after Christ. Christians meeting on the first day of the week began immediately after the resurrection of Christ.
Historical Support for First Day Worship
Finally, consider how early Christians began to worship on the first day of the week according to the historical records. It was mentioned as the day of worship by the following men or in the following writings:
- Ignatius in his Ad Magnesios written about 115AD.
- An unknown author in The Epistle of Barnabas probably written between 107 and 120AD.
- Justin Martyr who lived from about 100 to 165AD.
- Tertullian who lived from about 160 to 220AD.
These are just some of the earliest examples. The evidence to the contrary just does not match up. Before the completion of the New Testament and immediately afterwards, the Christian day of worship was the first day of the week. On that special day every week we come together to worship God and to remember that we serve a risen Saviour. Those who teach otherwise try to bring Christians back under the bondage of the law. Their false doctrine should be rejected. Let us worship our Saviour truly on the day of His resurrection.

Tests To Determine If Someone Is Of God

1st John 4:1,2…
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.”
The word “try” means “to test.” Hence, we are to TEST the spirits. What does the Bible mean by “spirit.” All human beings are spirits. The Devil is a spirit. The demons are spirits. The angels are spirits. God Himself is a Spirit (John 4:24). We are spirits in a physical world. There is a great spiritual battle taking place. Ephesians 6:12 states, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Thus, every book, every movie, every writing, is produced by a spirit, the human spirit. Ephesians 2:2 teaches that Satan has influence upon the unsaved spirit (person), “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” So we see that there are different spirits at work. 1st John 4:13, “Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.” A clear distinction should be made between “the spirit (Satan) that now worketh in the children of disobedience,” and the Holy Spirit of God.
1st John 4:2 is Only a Test Starting Point
It is important to understand that the test specified in 1st John 4:2 is only a starting point, not a conclusive test. We are told that “Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.” Obviously this cannot be a final test because many false religions believe that Jesus is the Christ, i.e., the Saviour. Every Catholic believes that Jesus is the Christ; BUT, they are all bound for Hell because they are trusting in their good works and the Church to save them. Ephesians 2:8,9 and Titus 3:5 plainly teach that good works CANNOT merit anyone salvation. Seventh-Day Adventists believe that Jesus is the Christ; BUT, they teach works salvation and that Christ’s work of redemption still isn’t completed. So it’s important to test the spirits with the ENTIRE Word of God, not just one simple test. God is simply providing us with a starting point in 1st John 4:1,2. One billion Muslims would fail this first test, because they don’t believe Jesus died on the cross. The Koran states that Jesus was kidnapped, and another crucified in His place. Muslims also teach that God has NO Son. 1st John 2:22 calls them LIARS and ANTI-Christs for denying that Jesus is the Christ.
There are Other Tests Required to Determine if Someone is of God or Satan
The tests we should give to a person’s faith, based upon the Word of God, to determine whether or not they are a legitimate Christian, is:
- Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven? (John 14:6)
- Do they believe in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ? (Isaiah 7:14)
- Do they believe that Jesus is God Almighty? (Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-3,14; 10:33, 1st Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9; Revelation 1:8)
- Do they believe that Jesus is the Son of God? (John 3:16)
- Do they believe that Jesus died upon the cross? (John 19:23; Hebrews 12:2)
- Do they believe that Jesus was buried, and rose again physically after three days? (1st Corinthians 15:1-4)
- Do they believe that Jesus ascended bodily into Heaven after His resurrection? (Acts 1:9)
- Do they believe that it is Jesus’ blood which takes our sins away, and not just the death of Christ? (Colossians 1:14; 1st John 1:7; Revelation 7:14)
- Do they believe in the Godhead (Trinity): God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit? (Romans 1:20; Matthew 28:19,20)
- Do they believe that Jesus is a member of the Godhead, equal in every capacity? (Colossians 2:9)
- Do they believe that Jesus is perfect, never having sinned even once? (2nd Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15)
- Do they believe that Jesus existed in Preexistent form, before He came to the earth? (John 8:58; Revelation 1:8)
- Do they believe in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ upon the cross, Who died in our place? (1st Peter 2:21)
- Do they believe that Hell is a literal place that burns with fire, to punish all Christ-rejecters? (2nd Thessalonians 1:8; Revelation 20:8,11-15;)
- Do they believe in a literal Heaven, for the saved to go to? (John 14:1,2; 2nd Corinthians 5:8)
- Do they believe that Jesus Christ is the Creator of the universe? (John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16)
- Do they believe that Jesus Christ always existed? (Revelation 1:8; John 5:58; Hebrews 7:3)
- Is Christ’s work of atonement completely finished? (Hebrews 9:26)
The answer to every question above should be a confident “YES!”
The answer to every question below should be a confident “NO!”
- Does a person have to be baptized to go to Heaven? (1st Corinthians 1:17; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:13)
- Do you have to do any good works to go to Heaven? (Romans 3:20; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5)
- Do you have to join a church to go to Heaven? (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; Psalm 118:8)
- Do you have to confess your sins to a priest or a minister to go to Heaven? (1st Timothy 2:5)
- Do you have to keep the sacraments to go to Heaven? (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; Romans 4:5)
- Do you have to endure or persevere to the end of life to be saved? (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; Romans 5:15; Romans 6:23; Romans 4:5)
- Do you have to earn your way to Heaven? (Romans 3:20; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5)
- Do you have to pray the Rosary to go to Heaven? (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; Matthew 6:7)
- Do you have to recognize the Virgin Mary to be saved? (1st Timothy 2:5; Exodus 20:4,5)
- Do you have to be religious to go to Heaven? (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; Mark 7:6-13)
There are other questions as well; but, these are the main questions. You’ll find that 98% of the people in this world DON’T pass the above tests. Please do not misunderstand this article. I’m not saying we should rudely interrogate people concerning their beliefs. What I am saying is that if someone’s belief’s don’t line up with the Word of God concerning salvation, then they’re not saved. No one who is trusting in their baptism to save them will go to Heaven. No one who believes that Christ’s blood is insignificant is saved. No one who denies the virgin birth, or Christ’s sinlessness is saved. These are all fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. There is MUCH deception today, many false Christs, and many liars. The only true way of knowing whether they are of God or not is to scrutinize their teachings with the Light of God’s Word. No one who prays the Rosary and trusts Mary will ever go to Heaven. No way! The Bible is clear that such repetitious prayers are sinful (Matthew 6:7). Bowing to any statue is a horrible sin (Exodus 20:4,5). If you’ll study the Word of God, instead of following men, then you CANNOT be deceived.
Many False Religions Teach the Basic Gospel
Many professed “Christian” organizations today, put forth a basic Gospel message to the public; BUT, they would fail the above tests. Many false religions are based upon the Gospel. It’s true. The Devil always starts with the truth when he wants to create a lie (Romans 1:25; 2nd Corinthians 11:14), then he perverts it. By adding and removing from the truth, it is corrupted. For Example: Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. However, they deny the deity of Christ, the Godhead, the Holy Spirit, and so many other fundamental Bible doctrines. They are a false religion, children of the Devil. Do you see why it is so important to preach the Gospel, while simultaneously EXPOSING Satan’s works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11)? Yes, we should preach the Gospel; BUT, many false religions also do that, so we need to give people additional information from the Bible. We need to teach people that good works cannot merit salvation, and that baptism is not required to be saved. We must tell them about the lies of Roman Catholicism, and the deadly deception of Seventh-Day Adventism. We must warn them about imposters like Oprah Winfrey, who denies Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.
We should warn those who need to be warned. If I know that someone is following a certain false religion, like Catholicism, then I’ll make sure to warn them that the sacraments are evil. They need to know! Do you realize that every Catholic believes the basic Gospel? They believe that Jesus’ blood washes our sins away! BUT, they are also trusting the virgin Mary (Our Lady of Fatima), the Rosary, the Pope, the priestly confessional booth, the Church, the seven sacraments, and their good works to save them one day. They’re going to burn in the Lake of Fire if they don’t get saved. Salvation is found ONLY in Jesus Christ, by faith alone in Christ! If you add anything to your faith, then it is NO faith at all, and you will go to Hell. It is for this very reason that I expose so many CCM (contemporary Christian music) artists today. They all speak a vague message, barely even the basic Gospel; while the world plunges into the abyss of Hell. And they say they care about people? No they don’t! They’re more interested in making money.
It’s time for Christians to start proclaiming the Truth of God’s Word. The Gospel is being exploited by many false religions to deceive the ignorant and unlearned. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is His death, burial, and resurrection; BUT, the “good news” also teaches that salvation is a FREE GIFT which absolutely cannot be merited in any way (Romans 5:15; 11:6; Ephesians 2:8,9). So the good news of Christ is no good news at all when you REQUIRE people to get baptized, join a church, keep the Sabbath, make a commitment, walk a church isle, perform good works, confess sins to a priest, tithe, persevere to the end, or partake of sacraments. The good news (Gospel) is that you DON’T have to do anything to be saved, just place your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour to forgive your sins. Jesus already did everything for us at Calvary, all we need to do is rest in His finished work of redemption. It’s as simple as this: We are sinners, and Jesus is the Saviour.
Again, If you’ll study the Word of God, instead of following men, then you CANNOT be deceived.

Blasphemy! According to Mr. Gane, keeping the Sabbath is evidence of salvation, just as Charismatics teach that speaking-in-tongues is the initial evidence of being born again. BOTH of these doctrines are lies of the Devil. Sabbath Keepers are false prophets!

Colossians 2:14,16-17 state quite the contrary… “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross… Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” The Old Testament SABBATH was a CEREMONIAL LAW, which pictured Jesus Christ, in whom we rest for the salvation of our souls. This is evidenced by Hebrews 4:2-4, which state…
“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.”
This passage of Scripture clearly evidences the fact that the Sabbath Day was only symbolic of a person’s faith (i.e., solely resting) in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Mankind attempted to work his way to Heaven through self-righteousness, but he utterly failed (Romans 3:19; James 2:10). This is represented by man working 6-days prior to the Sabbath Day. Today, Jesus is our Sabbath, i.e., He is the fulfillment of what the Sabbath Day symbolized. In Christ we rest for salvation. Colossians 2:16,17 state, “…or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come…” A shadow is only cast when the sun is afar off in the distance. Once the sun rises overhead, the shadow vanishes away. Hence, when Jesus Christ fulfilled His earthly mission, He took the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross (Colossians 2:14). There is NO Sabbath Day today. It was nailed to the cross. Jesus has become our Sabbath, and in Him alone we rest for our salvation.
Sabbath Keepers Pervert the Scriptures and Worship the Sabbath

Sabbath Keepers are idolaters, worshipping the creature more than the Creator. You’d think nothing else mattered in life except the Sabbath Day from listening to these heretics. Carefully read Colossians 2:18,19… “Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.” The Scriptures are very clear–only Jesus Christ is to be worshipped! Catholics worship Mary. Charismatics worship speaking-in-tongues. Sabbath-Keepers worship the Sabbath. Televangelists worship money. Christians are commanded to worship the Lord! Sabbath Keepers are “vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head…” (Colossians 2:18,19).
Misguided Worship and the Cults
So many false religions are started because people get sidetracked from the main issue–Jesus Christ Himself. One group is off worshipping Mary. Another group is off worshipping Water Baptism. Still yet another group is off worshipping the Lord’s Supper. And now we have the Seventh-Day Adventists (SDA’s) off worshipping the Sabbath. Nothing is more dear to the Catholic than Mary. Nothing is more dear to the Lutheran than Water Baptism. Nothing is more dear to the Pentecostal than speaking-in-tongues. And nothing is more dear to SDA’s than the Sabbath. Truly, nothing should be any more precious to the believer than Jesus Christ Himself, “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious…” (1st Peter 2:7).
The Bible never speaks of the Sabbath as being “precious”; BUT, 1st peter 2:7 calls Jesus PRECIOUS! We also read in the Scriptures about the “precious blood of Christ” in 1st Peter 1:18,19… “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” From the blood sacrifice of Abel, to the saints washed in the blood of the Lamb in Revelation 7:14, the Word of God centers around the blood of Jesus Christ. Yet, Catholics think Mary is precious, when the Bible does not say so. SDA’s think the Sabbath is precious, but the Bible does not say so. Charismatics think speaking-in-tongues is precious, but the Bible never says that. What is precious to you? If you are a genuine child of God, then Jesus Christ and the blood He shed for your sins and mine ought to be the dearest and most precious things in your life.
The doctrine of Sabbath Keeping, as evidence of salvation, is of the Devil. The Apostle John said in 1st John 5:13… “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” Interestingly, John NEVER mentions THE SABBATH. If observing the Sabbath were any type of evidence of being saved, then surely John would have mentioned it, because the entire reason he wrote 1st John was to help believers KNOW they are saved. Do you see how quickly false doctrines and cults are exposed when we shine the Light of God’s Holy Word upon them? This is why Jesus said in John 5:39… SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES!

Citizen X Must Admit his Folly Soon
Back in May of 2008 , advocate for Ronald Weinland, Citizen X made the following statement on his post “Scoffers and Mockers who are willingly ignorant.” :

I agree one hundred percent with you, truthseaker. I am extremely careful about this type of stuff, and am over cautious for false prophets.
And it’s just like other people have said. There is nothing that I can point to to validate Weinland, however everything he says simply makes sense. It’s really that simple. And so I am willing to take a chance – I’m not going to commit to him, but I’ll give him a chance to be proven right or wrong. And just like you, I will be the first to admit my folly if I’m convinced he’s a false prophet. But like I keep saying in my posts, it’s too early to tell.

Since none of Ronald Weinland’s predictions have come true so far, it looks like Citizen X will be either insane or a fool. The next prediction, 45-90 days out from December 14, is massive global destruction set to occur by the latest date of March 15th. The final prediction in “2008 God’s Final Witness ” is that in 6 months, after the fall of 2008, the United States will no longer be an independent nation; it will have collapsed as a World Power. This coming June, will Citizen X admit his insanity/ folly or will he follow in the footsteps of his darling, Ron? I think we already know the answer. However , it will be interesting to see if a statement or post is made at that time.
–One must keep in mind Ronald Weinland has already made statements recently that ” it could be a year before thunders intensify” . Ronald Weinland is pained to see people leave the cog package and his excuse for his failed prophecies is thus:
The congregation needs to fast and pray so that more of the remnant “throughout the scattered nations of Israel, and from throughout the scattered body, of people who were scattered from the body, who were vomited out of the body” will repent and turn for Ron to lead them.
All this fasting and praying will cause “God to stir up the thunders”causing the scattered vomit to return to the true church of Ron.
He continues to glorify HWA even to the wine he buys; Mr Armstrong this, Mr Armstrong that. RW is definitely an old testament preacher, he preaches of that which he does not know.
He did mention how good Romans 7 and 8 is, how it mentions “oh wretched man that I am. Who will free me from this body of sin?” He reads that kind of scripture to make his congregation feel guilty and sinful, in hopes that out of their guilt they will give to “the work”. What about romans 7:6? But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.
If you are a member of the COG-PKG, please read that scripture again and it will set you free. Ronald Weinland heaps burdens upon others which he himself will not carry. Ron tells you to have patience with God.
God did not write 2008 God’s Final Witness, Ron wrote it. So you have to have patience with Ron, until you realize he is a false prophet who does not preach Jesus. Ron will ride your tithes until you leave like the others before you. There are always new converts to replenish those who leave.
He duped you with his book by preying on your faith. Mr Armstrong is Ron’s God. He mentions him more than Jesus, and he substituted your bible with his 2008 – God’s Final Witness. Does he ever tell you to read the testimony of Jesus Christ. No. “It’s all on the web site”
Any person who continues to follow Ronald Weinland is in danger of losing his/her faith, and becoming an atheist like so many former followers of Armstrongism who realized that they gave hard earned money to a cause that did nothing good for anyone. Is the continual feeling of guilt and shame good for anyone?
The truth shall set you free. And anyone who has experienced captivity knows the joy of freedom once set free.

Pray For Death
False Prophet Ronald Weinland delivered yesterday’s sermon from Cincinnati. This is the weekend of the two-day fast he called earlier in the month. Weinland acknowledged that such a fast is unprecedented in CoG history, both in recent memory and probably for all 7 eras. While one-day fasts (no food or water) have been common in WCG and the various splinters, both on the annual Day of Atonement and other occasions called by a Herblet, a two-day fast (no food or water) is breaking new ground. Despite Weinland’s cautions that certain people with health problems were not to attempt it, I fear that some may suffer permanently. Hopefully they will recognize when distress sets in and end their fast by drinking some water.
From comments made by Weinland and from comments by others on this blog and another forum, it appears that there is at least some small movement by members away from Weinland. One who followed Weinland into the second timeline and was willing to accept an 8-month delay for prophecies in “2008 God’s Final Witness” drew the line at Weinland’s attempt to move out expectations for the Great Tribulation to 2 years. It seems that some are kept in the church by the fear of losing contact with friends and family members.
When discussing his email exchange with a departing member, Weinland sequed into a discussion of people who criticized Herbert Armstrong for his extravagances, such as silver ice buckets. His response: “Armstrong talked quality”. Weinland continued on to mention “the stupid thing of the house that’s out there on the Internet. $381,000. Whoop-de-doo”. This is in reference to other posts on this blog exposing Ron’s lifestyle which is decidedly above average. Ron went on the claim that he might be criticized for living somewhere less expensive, and he could have had a more expensive home, and that while everything you have is God’s, he only wants 10%. However Ron wants even more, in the past demanding 3/4 of the members’ second tithe and whatever nest eggs they have. I don’t doubt that he could have afforded an even more expensive home.
Weinland went on to explain the purpose of the fast. He read the following from pages 85-86 of “2008 God’s Final Witness”.
God wanted the Seven Thunders to remain sealed until this very time as well.
God did all this as part of a process through which He would reveal who one of His end-time witnesses was, the one through whom He would fully reveal all that John had written in the Book of Revelation concerning this end-time. God gave specific end time prophecies to John in a vision. John was to write about what he saw, but most of what he wrote was to remain sealed. God predetermined to reveal the meaning and timing of these major prophetic events through His end-time prophet.
God has a twofold purpose for doing this. First, God is going to make a clear distinction, in His scattered Church, between who His true minister is, through whom He is working, and all other ministers with whom He is not working. This will serve as one final witness to the Church before the devastation of the great tribulation strikes the whole world at the opening of the Seventh Seal.
Ron had a convoluted explanation as to why the last sentence doesn’t mean what it says. He did not read the next paragraph or the one after that which reads:
The timing for the Seven Thunders is during the period of the Sixth Seal.
Nor did he read the chapter title which reads:
The Seven Thunders of the 6th Seal
Ron then proceeded for the umpteenth time to summarize the Seven Thunders. The members are to pray for them to get stronger so more will be humbled. They are to pray that the thunders become more intense so that more will be humbled and brought to repentance so that they can be saved when the Great Tribulation finally, finally gets here. Pray for the deaths of Rod Meredith and the other 4 specific ministers so that Ron’s prophecy will appear to have been fulfilled. Perhaps even more than a tithe of all the thirds, not just a tithe of one of the thirds, can be saved.
Perhaps some will pray for my death. After all, it’s now over 6 weeks since Weinland cursed me to die speedily from the inside. You’d think if it was going to take this long, it would have happened on the 40th day, since 40 is the number of judgment. But we’re past that hurdle. Oh well, we’ve got 40 weeks yet — but so much for “speedily”.

Has your faith in your false religion (Wordwide Church of God, Ronald Weinland, Buddhism, Atheism, Islam, Satanism, etc.) been strengthened by Christian apologetics or by reading the Bible? If so, you have reason to be concerned.
I wish it could be otherwise, but the Bible teaches that its message will have one of two effects on people: Either it will stir their hearts to faith, or it will harden them and drive them away. As the apostle Paul said in II Corinthians 2:15-16:
- “For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?”
What St. Paul is saying is that the Gospel is not merely information that one can accept or dismiss. It is a living thing that draws some people near and pushes others away.
God recognizes that many people who hear His words will reject them, to their own destruction. As He told the prophet Ezekiel:
- “But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.”
Ezekiel 3:27
Jesus Himself warned us that most people will not reach Paradise, and exhorted us in Matthew 17:13-14:
- “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Does that mean that God’s Word is weak, or that it has failed? Not at all. For the Bible is not only a call to belief; it is a discerner, a witness, and a judge. As Hebrews 4:12 tells us:
- “[T]he word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
How do you respond to the Bible? Do you rejoice at its message, or do you consider it foolish and corrupt? Is it the aroma of life to you, or the smell of dead things? Either way, your heart has been laid bare – and your future has been revealed to you, unless you change.
Moreover, Jesus warns us in John 12:47-48 that this very Word will judge us on the Last Day:
- “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
Therefore, do not think that you have defeated or nullified this Word when you or your fellow adherents reject it. I tell you, you have not defeated this Word, it has defeated you:
- “Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
I Corinthians 1:20-25
I pray that God’s blessing will be upon you as you consider this warning. May He give you eyes to see, ears to hear, that you may understand and turn and He would heal you.

Do you see anything terribly wrong with this picture? I do. This is the Catholic Mary. Look at her hands. Do you see the scars of crucifixion? That’s blasphemous and creepy. Does this bother you? Look at the caption. It says that Mary is co-redeemer (co-redemptrix) with Jesus Christ. Look again…it says she our advocate–but wait a minute. I John 2:1 says that Jesus is our advocate–
“…if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
The Roman Catholic Mary is a usurper.
Look again, this abominable image also says that Mary mediates/dispenses the grace of God. This is insanity when compared with the Bible. Why is light emitting from her wounds? Is she supposed to be the light of the world and power of God? Wait a minute, notice that she is pregnant. Jesus is supposedly still in her womb, a fetus totally dependent on her– meanwhile she’s all powerful! You may want to see our article “Catholics believe Jesus is a Mama’s Boy”.
Did you know that Roman Catholics call Mary the “Queen of Heaven”? Did you know that the Bible talks about the queen of heaven? It does. The queen of heaven is A PAGAN GODDESS, A DEVIL– Jeremiah 7:18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the QUEEN OF HEAVEN, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
You can also read about this devil, the queen of heaven, in Jeremiah chapter 44. In this little treatise you will see FROM CATHOLIC SOURCES that
- they call their Mary the queen of heaven. This is not the Mary of the Bible.
- they pray to Mary
- they turn to Mary for help for sin
- they believe she was born sinless just like Jesus (called the Immaculate Conception–should be “Deception”)
- they believe she never saw physical death (called the Assumption of Mary)
these are not all of the errors that Papists expound in regards to Mary…

The Coronation of Mary
Queen of HeavenThe feast of the Queenship of Mary was established in 1954 by Pope Pius XII. The original date for this feast was chosen as May 31st, but was later moved to the octave day of the feast of the Assumption, August 22nd. This memorial celebrates the same event that is highlighted by the fifth glorious mystery or the Rosary.
Throughout the New Testament, Mary’s role in heaven is mentioned. Mary is alluded to as Queen in the book of Revelations [tracy’s note: that passage refers to ISRAEL NOT MARY], and throughout the Bible. It is because of Jesus close relationship with his mother that she shares in his kingship.
The Church and the faithful for have also referred to Mary as queen since the fourth century. Various songs, litanies, and prayers refer to Mary as queen. (e.g. Regina Caeli during Eastertide.) The Church has affirmed the title of Mary in modern times through documents including Lumen Gentium (…”and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son” Lumen Gentium 59) and the papal encyclical Ad Coeli Reginam.
The title Queen is used to indicate the final state of the Virgin, seated beside her Son, the King of glory.

There have been special interventions of Mary in local churches. She appeared at Fatima in Portugal in 1917 with a message of prayer and reparation for the salvation of souls. In addition to this Gospel message, the Virgin prophesied certain events in history which, some suggest, included the recent collapse of Communism. In Mexico in 1531, Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to an Aztec peasant, Juan Diego, at which time she declared herself as “your merciful mother; to you and all inhabitants of the earth”. As proof of her visit and concern, she left her image on the cloak, the tilma, of Juan Diego which is still displayed more than four hundred years later in the Basilica near Mexico City. More importantly, her appearance was the impetus to the evangelization of Mexico. Within a few years, eight million Indians were baptized.

May we see heaven as our final goal and come to share with HER glory. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us. And after this our exile, show unto us the blessed Fruit of they womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
It didn’t take me long to find this information. It took me longer to format it than find it. You could spend a year looking up this goddess worship and still not be close to exploring it fully. Catholics pray to, worship, and venerate their Mary–this is not the Mary of the Bible. This is the queen of heaven spoken of in Jeremiah.
